Composition: Calcium aluminum silicate hydroxide
Nomenclature: Named after Baron von Zois, an Austrian natural scientist, who discovered the mineral.
Industrial Uses: Gemstones.
Additional Notes: A member of the Epidote group of minerals. The blue, gem variety of zoisite is called tanzanite; the red, gem variety of zoisite is named thulite; and the green, gem variety of zoisite is called anyolite.
