Monetary Units: 1 za´re (Z) = 100 makuta (singular likuta) = 10,000 sengi. The new za´re (NZ) replaced the (old) za´re (Z) at a rate of 3,000,000 (old) za´res to 1 NZ on October 22, 1993. The current monetary unit is the new za´re (NZ).
Location: Central Africa; bordered by Republic of the Congo (west); Central African Republic (north); Sudan (northeast); Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania (east); Zambia and Angola (south).
