Mineral Name: Spodumene

Composition: Lithium aluminum silicate

Nomenclature: Named from the Greek word "spodoumenos" which means "burned to ash," a reference to the ashy appearance of early-discovered specimens.

Industrial Uses: Gemstones; lithium ore.

Additional Notes: Varieties of spodumene are based upon color. Kunzite is the pink- to lilac-colored variety. Hiddenite is the green variety.
