Monetary Units: Originally, Rhodesian pound (at par with the pound sterling). In 1965, the Malawi pound replaced the Rhodesian pound. On February 15, 1971, the Malawi kwacha replaced the Malawi pound at a rate of 2 kwacha = 1 Malawi pound. Currently, 1 Malawi kwacha = 100 tambala
Location: Southern Africa; bordered by Zambia (west); Tanzania (north and east); Mozambique (east, south, and west).
History: Nyasaland (a British protectorate) became the independent nation of Malawi in 1964.
