Composition: An igneous rock, formed beneath the surface of the earth, composed chiefly of feldspar and quartz. Small amounts of mica and hornblende may be present.
Nomenclature: Named after the Latin word "granum" which means "grain" because of its grainy texture.
Industrial Uses: Building stone, ornamental stone.
Additional Notes: One of the most durable and weather-resistant rocks. Frequently chosen for monuments because of its durability.
