Nomenclature: Named after the Greek word smaragdos which means "a light green precious stone," because of its color.
Industrial Uses: Gemstones.
Additional Notes: Emerald is the green, gem variety of the mineral beryl. Emerald is generally regarded as the most precious of the precious gems.
